Heavy rains that lasted for days have caused flooding and other issues all over the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

In Winchester, the same can be said.

As of 6:00 a.m. ET on Monday, April 7, the National Weather Service office in Louisville states that a flood warning remains in effect until early Wednesday morning for the Kentucky River at Ford Lock, affecting both Madison and Clark Counties.

According to the Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the NWS at 2:52 a.m. EDT Monday for counties including Clark, which can be found at https://forecast.weather.gov/wwamap/wwatxtget.php?cwa=LMK&wwa=hazardous%20weather%20outlook, a freeze warning will be in effect from 2:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8.

It states: “Areal and river flooding will continue to pose a threat to the area. Do not approach or drive through floodwaters! Sub-freezing temperatures are forecasted for tonight.”

Heavy rains and thunderstorms led to a number of warnings being shared with the community.

Beginning on Sunday, March 30, through Sunday, April 6, the Winchester Police Department posted nine times on its Facebook page alerting residents to severe thunderstorm warnings, flash flood warnings, and more details, as stated by the NWS’ Louisville station.

Clark County Circuit Court Clerk Tony Kirk posted a message on his Facebook page over the weekend informing the public of the damage the storms have caused.

“District [C]ourt will be canceled on Monday 4/7 due to water damage in the courtroom.”

On Sunday, Waterfront Grille and Gathering—a popular hangout spot located at 220 Athens Boonesboro Road—posted a picture of its largely flooded location.

Along with the picture, a message stated, “This is our current situation! Pray for no more rain east of us!”

Over 100 individuals shared the post, including Winchester-Clark County Tourism Director Jill Hamlin and Clark County Magistrate Chris Davis.

On Sunday, the Winchester Fire Department announced that a swiftwater rescue team had been activated to respond to the city of Frankfort along with the Richmond Fire Department and North Carolina Task Force to assist with potential flooding issues.
