Residents of Clark County have good reason to feel fortune as of late.
According to a press release from the Kentucky House Majority Caucus, Kentucky House of Representatives member Ryan Dotson announced that the county will receive $438,108 in infrastructure funding under legislation approved by both the Kentucky House and Senate.
Dotson, a Republican, represents the 73rd District.
“This funding will improve the lives of the citizens of Clark County,” he said. “Our roads greatly need improvements. These projects will maintain roads to help prevent costly repairs and safety [risks] in the future.”
Specifically, the projects included $331,980 to the Clark County Fiscal Court for the resurfacing of Ecton Road and $106,128 to the Clark County Fiscal Court for the resurfacing of Oil Springs Road.
The funding was made possible largely due to House Joint Resolution 46.
HJR 46 outlines which local maintenance projects receive state funding in the next fiscal year. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s, or KYTC, Department of Rural and Municipal Roads collects applications for city and county road resurfacing and other safety projects from local officials throughout the Commonwealth.
KYTC then graded the requests and submitted their findings to the Legislative Research Commission and Interim Joint Committee on Appropriations and Revenue in order to conduct a review.
Afterward, projects were ranked one to ten based on severity, with ten considered the most hazardous.
HJR, as a rule, only funds the road projects ranking ten on the scale – asserting that those most in need are dealt with first.
Under each measure, 145 projects are currently funded, totaling over $253.8 million.
