In November, Tony Kirk was elected the new Circuit Court Clerk for Clark County.

On January 2, as many were beginning the new year, Kirk officially entered a new position with the community.

“I’m just so thankful for all the supporters,” he said. “I’m just exceptionally happy to be able to work for the citizens of Clark County.”

With a long history of working in law enforcement, Kirk has seen employment at both the Clark County Sheriff’s Department and Winchester Police Department and most recently served as Director of the Clark County Home Incarceration Program.

As someone with an eclectic background, he also has taught history and served as a youth football coach.

At Thursday’s gathering, in addition to Kirk’s family members, attendees included Winchester PD Chief James Hall, Clark County Judge-Executive Les Yates, state senator Greg Elkins, Clark County attorney William Elkins, retired 25th Judicial District and Circuit Judge Julia Hylton Adams, 25th Judicial District Chief Circuit Judge Cole Adams Meier, 25th Judicial District Circuit Judge Kristin Clouse, and many others.

Presiding over the ceremony was 25th Judicial District District Court Judge Earl-Ray Neal.

Among other points, Neal paid tribute to outgoing Circuit Court Clerk Martha Miller, who Kirk also credited and respectfully asked to be present at the day’s event.

“Martha served the citizens of this community in the clerk’s office for 47 years,” Neal said. “I have a profound respect for her service, and I appreciate everything that she did.”

Lee Cruse, Senior Pastor of Grace Bible Church, offered a prayer.

“I pray you would encourage [Tony] and let him know you have your hand upon him,” Cruse said. “I pray that because of his leadership and because of the wisdom that you’re going to give him…this town and county would benefit.”

After agreeing to support the Constitution of the United States, faithfully executive to the best of his ability the position he’s been given, and more that are part of the swearing-in ceremony, Kirk was officially announced as Circuit Court Clerk to a room full of applause.

“I will come to work every day. I will work diligently,” Kirk said, providing thanks to supporting staff for their role as well. “I look forward to serving you as [the] next Circuit Court Clerk.”
