As the holidays approach each year, several organizations serving the Clark County and Fayette County communities have an opportunity to benefit from others’ charitable contributions.
Such will be the case this upcoming week.
The GoodGiving Challenge will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, and last through midnight on Thursday, Dec. 6.
As stated on the website https://www.bggives.org, “The GoodGiving Challenge is an annual online event that makes giving to local nonprofits easy and fun!”
Now in its 14th year, the event—hosted by Bluegrass Community Foundation in partnership with Smiley Pete Publishing—has rewarded participating nonprofits with significant financial rewards.
Specifically, as noted by the website, generous donors and sponsors have helped raise over $23 million since the event’s inception in 2011.
The 2023 total saw $2.67 million be raised for 195 local nonprofits thanks to nearly 12,000 givers.
As might be expected, a number of local organizations participate.
Among them are St. Agatha Academy, The Beacon of Hope Emergency Shelter, Clark County Community Services, Swimchester Sailfish, Inc., Leeds Center for the Arts, Lower Howard’s Creek Nature and Heritage Preserve, Inc., New Beginnings of Winchester, Friends of Parks and Recreation, and Habitat for Humanity of Madison & Clark Counties, and many more.
“We’re one of multiple Clark County agencies,” said City Manager Shannon Cox, co-sponsor with Winchester Community Work Group. “We had a multitude of kids. We’re expecting that many again this year.”
Anna Campomanes, Event and Marketing Coordinator for Legacy Greenscapes, discussed the organization’s goals and positive impact.
“We are trying to raise $30,000 for [Legacy Grove] Park,” she said. “We definitely want to remind folks that we are a nonprofit, public park, so tax dollars do not support the park. Grants and donations from the public support it.”
This year’s goals for the GoodGiving Challenge are to raise $3 million. Donations can be provided at https://www.bggives.org. A link titled “Check Out Participating Organizations” can be selected on the home page. After doing so, various such organizations will be shown.
