Herbert Davis Sledd, Jr., 73, died unexpectedly at his home in Winchester, KY on October 24, 2024. He was born on November 27, 1950 in Winchester, KY.

He was a graduate of Transylvania University, attended U of L Law School, and graduated from UK School of Law. After working in Frankfort, KY at the AG’s office, he practiced with Brown, Sledd and McCann in Lexington, where he met his future wife, Barbara Jean Bryant.

He was appointed Asst. U. S. Attorney for the Department of Justice in March 1991. Representing the Federal Judicial District of Eastern KY, he enforced coal mine safety and was committed to the protection of coal miners. He was awarded commendation for his assistance in helping struggling farmers before they incurred foreclosure. He retired from the DOJ after serving twenty years.

Dave loved golden retrievers, deep reading on many topics, and listening to several genres of music. He was an excellent bridge player and was a fierce competitor at many games. He had a quick wit but cherished simple pleasures and his alone time.

Left to mourn his loss, are his beloved sisters, Mary Miles Sledd, and her family and Sarah Gay Sledd Glenn (Reece) and their children.

Other survivors include, an uncle, Ben Sledd (Peggy) and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private burial of cremains is Wednesday, November 27, at the North Middletown Cemetery (Bourbon County) followed by a memorial service at Milward – Man O’ War, 1509 Trent Blvd, Lexington, KY 40515 at 1:00 pm. Immediately following the service, family and friends are invited to attend a reception for fellowship and reminiscing.
