Shirley Mae Young Taulbee, age 87, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at her home in Winchester, Kentucky following a battle with cancer. She was a long-time member of Ruckerville Church of Christ. She was born in Breathitt County, Kentucky on December 1, 1936, to the late James and Rosa Gillum Young. Shirley was married to Edgar C. Taulbee for more than 50 years. In addition to her parents and husband Edgar, she was also proceeded in death by siblings Lawrence Young, Charles Young, Ollie Pelfrey, June Banks, Daisy Brewer, Lois Brewer, and former husband Jim Pelfrey.
Everyone who knew her called her “Granny”. This name was given to her later in life by her first grandchild. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School with the hope that every child would become a Christian and serve God. She was an avid reader and enjoyed studying the Bible and reading books on Kentucky and Civil War history.
She is survived by children Deborah Taulbee (Garry) Jones, Ronald (Teena) Taulbee of Winchester, Angela Taulbee (Franklin) Graham of Winfield, Tennessee, her grandchildren Jeremy (Christi) Jones, Codi (Jackie) Jones, Stephanie Graham, Melissa (Sam) Cooper and her great grandchildren, Winston Edgar Jones, Avery Lewis Jones, Savannah Gracelin Cooper, and Eli Cooper. She is also survived by one brother, Albert Young of Lancaster, Kentucky along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Scobee Funeral Home in Winchester, Kentucky, with a celebration of life service to begin at 2:00 pm. Services will be conducted by Alan Epperson. Burial will follow in the Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, great grandson, and nephews.
