GRC student killed in traffic accident identified

The George Rogers Clark High School student involved in the fatal traffic accident on Tuesday morning has been identified as McKenna Letcher.
Letcher’s identity was confirmed in a news release from the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
“Clark County Coroner Neal Oliver confirms that McKenna Letcher, 15, of Winchester was pronounced dead at the scene, as a result of injuries sustained when she was struck by a Clark County school bus. Apparently, she was attempting to cross the Veterans Memorial Parkway near the intersection of Ironworks Road. Further questions should be directed to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office”, the release states.
The investigation into Letcher’s death is ongoing and is being conducted by the sheriff’s office and coroner’s office.
The news was first reported in a release sent by Clark County Public Schools.
“The Clark County Public Schools family is heartbroken today. A CCPS bus was involved in an accident with a pedestrian this morning at the intersection of Ironworks Road and Veterans Memorial Parkway. We are profoundly sad to announce that the pedestrian, a current George Rogers Clark High School student, has passed away,” the release states.
The Clark County Public Schools release further elaborated the steps being taken to support the district’s students and staff.
“A team of pastoral staff, grief counselors,, and other mental health support staff are available at GRC and all other schools today and for as long as needed. Should you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us. Please keep the student’s family, along with the entirety of our school system and community, in your thoughts and prayers as we work through this very difficult time.”
As of this writing funeral arrangements for Letcher have not been announced.
