Rose Russell, a resident of McKinney, Texas, formerly of Kentucky, passed away on August 12, 2024, at the age of 95.
She was born on October 27, 1928, in Perry County, Kentucky, Rose was the beloved daughter of Henderson Smith and Polly May (Johnson) Smith. She grew up in Winchester, Kentucky, and graduated from Winchester High School.
Rose’s life journey began with her first marriage to James Travis Russell. Their travels with his work took them all over the United States. During these years, they had two sons and eventually settled in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. After her husband’s death, she relocated the family back to Winchester, Kentucky. Later, Rose married Woodruff Harney and they shared many years together. Throughout her life, Rose dedicated herself to her family as a devoted homemaker, providing a loving and nurturing home. Her career also included a role in retail at Embry’s Department Store in Lexington, Kentucky, where she was a top salesperson in her field.
Rose is survived by her son, Don Russell and wife, Joan of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Anna Russell of McKinney, Texas and Travis Russell of Plano, Texas; daughter-in-law, Carmen Russell of Plano, Texas; nephew, David Sosby and numerous other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henderson and Polly Smith; first husband, James Russell; her first son, Terry Russell, second husband, Woodruff Harney; two brothers; and three sisters.
