Wendell Andrew Grider, age 93, passed away peacefully at his home on July 20, 2024, in Lexington, Kentucky. Born in Clinton County, Kentucky, in 1931, he was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Bell and Gleah Andrew Grider, two brothers Sam L. Grider and Donald Grider, brother-in-law, Gary Farley, and nephew Josh Farley. Wendell is survived by the love of his life Ima Lea (Thrasher), whom he was married to for 68 years. Other survivors include three daughters, Deb Grider, Cindy Grider Williams (Eddie) and Carol Grider Weigand (Pete); two grandchildren, Matt Williams (Tamera Spangler) and Courtney Williams Wenta (Josh); five great grandchildren, Everett Williams, Beckett Williams, James Wenta, Emma Wenta and Charlotte Wenta; a sister Doris Farley, and other extended family. Wendell served in the Navy during the Korean War on a transport carrier delivering supplies and troops around the world. After attending Tennessee Tech University, he began his career at IBM as a Facilities Engineer. Active his entire life, he enjoyed restoring cars, woodwork, metalwork, travel, and serving others. A longtime member of Meadowthorpe Presbyterian Church, Wendell was instrumental in keeping things at the church in prime working order, as well as serving as deacon, elder, trustee, usher, greeter, and in many other ways. Wendell led a full life, devoted to his wife and family, and enjoyed the fellowship of many friends. A memorial service will be held at Meadowthorpe Presbyterian Church (356 Hillsboro Ave, Lexington, KY) on Saturday, July 27 at 1:00 PM with interment in Camp Nelson on Monday, July 29 at 11:00 AM. Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday from 11:30 AM until time of service at the church. Milward Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
