Donna Jean Springer Allen, 89, went home to be with Jesus on July 12, 2024, in Lexington, Kentucky. Born September 3, 1934, in Kansas City, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Robert Kenneth Springer and Jean Ruth Babbage Springer. Predeceasing Donna was her husband of 57 years, David Blair Allen.
Donna and Dave moved from southern California to Versailles in 1987. She had a deep love for Woodford County farmland and the beauty of Kentucky. Donna was a people person who loved her family deeply and made friends wherever she went. During her life she served several years as a youth group leader and mentor to many young people while living in California; she was also an elder at Pisgah Presbyterian Church and later attended King’s Way in Versailles. Donna faithfully served Natalie’s Sisters of Lexington as part of their jail letter writing team. She founded the 21 Book Club over 30 years ago, and she loved her job serving as the assistant to first lady Libby Jones during the Brereton Jones administration.
Donna is survived by her two sons: David Kenneth (Patti) Allen, Mill Creek, Washington; Scott Kevin Allen, Bell, California; her daughter: Neile Elizabeth (Rick) Ifland, Versailles, Kentucky; five grandchildren: Elizabeth (Mike) Hussey, Tukwila, Washington; Dani Upton, Versailles, Kentucky; Kirby (Christa) Ifland, Versailles, Kentucky; Philip (Robin) Allen, Bremerton, Washington; Crawford (Madeline) Ifland, Lexington, Kentucky; 12 great-grandchildren: Hannah M. Ifland, Kaylie Hussey, and Hayden Ifland; and two sisters: Katherine Glover, Wyoming, Ohio, and Susan (Chuck) Butler, Helena, Montana.
Donna’s family will forever be grateful for the compassionate care shown to her by Dr. Timothy Winchester and Dr. David Blake, who may actually be angels disguised as physicians, and to the Bluegrass Care Navigators Hospice team.
A Celebration of Life will be held at King’s Way Church, Versailles, on Friday, July 19 at 11:00 am, with a reception immediately following the service at the Ifland’s home; 4120 Pisgah Pike, Versailles.
