With much construction along Broadway now complete and events coming up as the summer months are upon us, an opportunity to show off a new business seems timely.
Fortunately, at the location of 21 E. Broadway Street, such an opportunity is real.
Sonny’s Place celebrated its opening with a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The bar is the brainchild of owners Robert White, a Winchester native who owns a small construction company, and his wife Donnetta White, a legal administrator.
“We had an opportunity to make it our own,” said Robert White. “We just wanted to come in, remodel, and make it a nice place for Winchester.”
Named after Robert’s father, Sonny’s Place presently has hours of operation from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and from 5:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
For those who enter the bar, a number of different alcohol choices are available as they look to their right.
Among them are bourbon, gin, beer, vodka, whiskey, rum, cider, and more.
Yet that’s not all.
“We have two pool tables, a touchtunes machine, TV’s, [and] tables,” said Donnetta White.
The touchtunes machine, functioning similar to a jukebox, can help provide an opportunity for unique entertainment.
“[We] have karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights,” she added.
With its work staff, including six people on many nights, the business believes it will be able to serve full capacity.
While that number currently sits at 75, plans are for it to grow.
Higher numbers equals higher satisfaction for the owners.
“We like it”, Donnetta White said. “We like talking to everybody and seeing everybody enjoy themselves.”
Robert White concurred.
“We just [want] to make it clean [and] inviting everyone to come in and have a drink with us,” he added.
