Joyce Ann Gillaspie, known affectionately to many as Nana, departed for her heavenly home on January 27, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on March 14, 1937, she lived a life marked by her love and dedication for her family and her home on the farm.
Joyce and her late husband Edgar B. cultivated a life as rich as the soil they farmed, tending a dairy farm, tobacco crops, beef cattle, and generations of their children. Nana’s home was a haven of warmth, where she lovingly prepared supper each night for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by a family who cherished her deeply: daughters Pam (Jim) Harris and Jody (Mike) Long; granddaughters Lindsay (Mike) Rice, Courtney Long (Josh Mitchell), and Madison Long (Jonathan Thomas); and great-granddaughter Emily Rice (Hunter Dawson). She also leaves behind her sister Darlene Turner and brother Rick Stivers, as well as several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Edgar B. Gillaspie, brother Harry Stivers, and sister Phyllis Flora.
Joyce was a member of Christview Christian Church, which was a source of comfort and community throughout her life.
Her family and friends will gather to honor her memory at the Leon Pace Memorial Chapel, next to Scobee Funeral Home, 219 W. Lexington Avenue, Winchester, KY. Visitation will begin at 11:00AM, Wednesday, January 31, 2024, with a service immediately following at 1:00PM. Pallbearers will be Jim Harris, Mike Long, Mike Rice, Josh Mitchell, Hunter Dawson, and Jonathan Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers will be Shane Hubbard, Johnny Myers, and Joyce’s nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Christview Christian Church in her memory.
Nana’s passing is mourned by all who knew her, yet her spirit and the values she instilled live on. Her memory will be treasured, and her presence sorely missed.
