A Winchester woman is a few hundred thousand dollars richer after winning a prize in her regular lottery game last month.
The woman, who chose to stay anonymous, said that on Dec. 19th she was checking her regular Cash Ball 225 at Gasoline Alley on April Way.
“I kind of glanced at my ticket and saw a couple numbers match,” she said. “I did a double take, and I was like, wait a minute, I have all these numbers.”
Her prize: $225,000.
Naturally, the win came as a surprise.
“I was a little in shock,” the woman said.
She quickly went to tell her husband the good news.
“I had a hard time getting the words out. All I could do was giggle,” she said.
“I didn’t really know what was going on,” the husband said. “I thought she was crying.”
She handed him the ticket along with his glasses and her phone with the winning numbers pulled up.
Then it was the husband’s turn for the surprise of a lifetime.
“That’s when we went into shock mode,” he said.
The woman put the signed ticket in a safety deposit box at her bank where she let it stay until claiming the prize while she sought some advice.
“I talked to my tax person and was told I should wait until January to cash it in,” she said.
So she she did and earlier this month, the woman received a check for $162,000.72 after taxes.
She and her husband said they plan to pay off bills and may do a few things around the house.
Gasoline Alley will receive $2,250 for selling the winning ticket.
