A Christmas Eve hit-and-run led to multiple charges for one Winchester man.
Thirty-year-old Darian Farris faces one count of leaving the scene of an accident, one count of operating a motor vehicle under the influence and one count of failure to produce an insurance card.
Winchester police were dispatched to the scene of an accident early on the morning of Dec. 24th.
According to the arrest citation, officers were informed by the party that the call that a black Dodge had struck their vehicle and that it would have damage on the front passenger side.
A deputy with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle matching that description and pulled it over at the intersection of Maple and Sycamore streets.
The deputy called for backup and a Winchester police officer responded. Upon arriving at the scene, the vehicle’s driver was identified as Farris, according to the arrest citation.
The officer reported that Farris strongly smelled of alcohol. Farris told the officers he had a few shots of liquor earlier in the evening. He then agreed to a few field sobriety tests.
According to the arrest citation, Farris subsequently failed the tests and was determined to be too intoxicated to operate a vehicle. He maintained he was not the one who hit the caller’s vehicle, but damage to Ferris’ vehicle matched what had been earlier reported.
After being arrested and transported to the Clark County Detention Center, Farris agreed to take a breathalyzer test, which revealed he had a blood-alcohol level of .110.
Farris has since been released from the detention center.
