The 2023 George Rogers Clark Cardinal’s incredible run came to an end Thursday night in Northern Kentucky.
Tournament host Bishop Brossart (16-4-5) shutout Nick Vogler’s Cards, 4-0, to avenge a 2-2 draw the Mustangs and GRC battled to earlier in the season in Winchester.
Tyler Smith scored all four goals for the Mustangs.
Brossart plays Campbell County for the regional crown on Saturday.
GRC finished the season 14-6-2 and won the school’s first District 39 championship ever and first district title since 2007.
The Card’s district title win ended a decade of dominance by arch rival Montgomery County.
GRC will lose ten seniors to graduation, including the high-scoring duo Caleb Turley and PK Vogel. The pair combined for 35 goals and 17 assists this season.
Returning players will include Cole Horn, Gratz McCraith and Jack Sotski. The trio scored a combined 14 goals this season. Seth Johnson, who finished the season with five assists, will also return.
