Robert David Hammet, 71, of Winchester KY, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, after a brief illness, at Saint Joseph Hospital, Lexington, KY. He was born August 28, 1952 in Winchester KY, the son of Sarah Scobee and Hugh Bedford Hammet of Bethesda, Md, and the grandson of Dr Robert Hughes Scobee of Winchester, Ky. Robert was a graduate of Transylvania University class of 1974 in Lexington KY and was a member of the Kappa Alpha order fraternity. He earned a doctorate degree in American Art History at the American University in Washington DC. Robert was a Horseman having trained and jockeyed with the Kentucky Equestrian community. He was a talented artist who painted beautiful portraits of Kentucky dignitaries and others often gifting them as a symbol of gratitude and thanks for those close to him. His love for animals was profound as evidenced by the fact that his sister named her dog Rocky Robert after his uncle Robert ! Robert will be missed by his adult nephews who would call to review their bets on Derby Day with their uncle. We all will miss his great conversation, wisdom and humor!!! . He is survived by one brother, Glenn Hammet of London, UK, and one sister, Betsy Emmons, of Scarboro, Maine; and five nephews; Aaron Scobee , Colby Mallan and Tyler Daniel Emmons from New England and Renat and Max Hammet-Millay from London, UK. The family would like to especially thank the wonderful nurses and medical team at Saint Joseph Hospital, Lexington, KY. A funeral service will be held at the Winchester Cemetery on Saturday, October 7th at 11:00am.
