Friday night will be a super good time at the Winchester campus of Bluegrass Community and Technical College.

The annual Moonlight Movie Night returns to the college grounds starting at 7 p.m.

“This is our ninth year doing movie nights at the campus, and we are excited to bring it back this year,” Campus Director Bruce Manley said.

The film will be the spring-hit “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” Based on the hit videogame franchise, the film follows the adventure of the titular character as he attempts to save the Mushroom Kingdom and his brother, Luigi.

The show starts at dark and is part of a unique double-feature event.

“We are going to have our Back to School Bash,” Manley said. “We are going to have about 40 vendors set up. These vendors are going to give out free school supplies. You can get pencils, paper, ink pens and graph paper.”

Parents and students will also have the opportunity to speak with representatives from each school in the Clark County Public Schools system.

“You will be able to talk to a representative from your school about enrolling or state dates or times,” Manley said.

Like the movie night, the Back to School Bash is an annual event on campus.

“This started a long time ago as a partnership with the family resource centers and youth service centers with the school system,” Manley said. “They did an event called Readifest, which was to get kids ready for school.”

Manley said he had the idea to combine the events and that ever since it has been a massive success for two reasons: the first is because of how excellent of a community partner the school system is, and the second is because of the community itself.

“The community has really turned out to get school supplies, and we make sure that if you need school supplies you do not have to go out and buy them,” Manley said.

The fun does not stop with the movie.

Local dance studio Dancer’s Pointe will give a performance, and following them later in the evening will be a rollicking performance from PJ the Clown.

At 7:45 p.m., a Mario Kart remote control car race will be held.

“I’m really excited about that because if you have a remote control car, we want you to bring it out and decorate it like a Mario Kart,” Manley said. “We will have three different age categories, and then we are going to have a race around the parking lot. There will be prizes if your remote control car comes in first place.”

In case of inclement weather, the event will be postponed and held in the fall as a Halloween-themed event.
