Man found passed out in van arrested on drug, receiving stolen property charges

A successful attempt to revive a couple suffering from drug overdose ended in the arrest of one man on Monday evening.

Micah Curtis, 45, faces several charges, including one count of receiving stolen property between $1,000 and $10,000, a count of 3rd-degree operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance, a count of 1st-degree possession of a controlled substance and one count of driving on a DUI suspended license.

According to the arrest citation, Winchester police were dispatched to the intersection of Boone Avenue and Bypass Road in response to a report of a Dodge van running at the stoplight. The vehicle’s two occupants were reportedly unconscious and possibly overdosed from an illegal drug.

Once the officer arrived at the scene, they verified that the driver, later identified as Curtis, was unconscious and emergency personnel applied Narcan.

Once Curtis was revived, he and the female passenger were both taken to Clark Regional Medical Center.

According to the arrest citation, an investigation of the vehicle contents of the vehicle revealed that a cigarette container that held three paper packs containing a white residue believed to be heroin.

A subsequent check on the van revealed that it had been reported stolen around 5 p.m. that same day by the Lexington Police Department.

During an interview with police at the hospital, Curis allegedly told police that someone in Lexington had permitted him to take the vehicle, according to the arrest citation. He said that he found it parked on the street with the keys already inside and that he was trying to get his wife to the hospital because he believed she was overdosing.

Curtis then allegedly told police that he had used heroin, found it inside the vehicle, and used one pack from the cigarette container before placing the other three back.

During the course of the investigation, police learned that Curtis was driving on a DUI-suspended license.

Curtis is lodged at the Clark County Detention Center on a $7,500 cash bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 26.
