With their backs against the wall, the George Rogers Clark Lady Cardinals overcame an early deficit to advance in the 40th District Tournament Monday evening.
The Lady Cards (10-22) spotted the Bourbon County Lady Colonels a 3-0 lead after the game’s first three innings but won, 11-3, thanks to a nine-run fifth inning.
Eighth-grader Lilli Hill and sophomore Addison Rogers paced GRC in the batter’s box. Hill went 3-of-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Rogers also went 3-of-4 and platted two runs. Underclassmen Kyleigh Chestnut and Emma Ensey also contributed two RBIs respectively to the Lady Cardinal cause.
Hill and fellow eighth-grader Bella Guinn carried GRC in the circle. Guinn tossed four innings, giving up two earned runs against five hits. Hill threw three no-hit innings. The pair combined to strike out 11 Lady Colonel batters.
GRC will take on rival Montgomery County in the 40th District Championship at 6 p.m. The game will be played at Bourbon County High School in Paris.
