GRC softball goes 2-3 after Spring Break

The George Rogers High School Lady Cardinals snapped an eight-game losing streak going into Spring Break and have played .500 ball the last week.

On Monday, the visiting Lewis County Lady Lions (10-3)—owners of the second-best record in the 16th Region—downed GRC (3-11) in a comfortable 11-4 victory.

On Tuesday, the Madison Central Lady Eagles (6-10) traveled up I-75 and came away with a close 3-1 decision over the Lady Cards.

The Lady Cards traveled to face district foe Paris on Wednesday and came away with a 14-3 victory.

Eighth-grader Lilliana Hill remains a bright spot in the batter’s box and the circle for the Lady Cards.

Hill leads the team in hitting (.545), home runs (three), extra-base hits (12), hits (18) and RBIs (14). She has a 1-2 record in the circle and leads the team in ERA (3.50) and strikeouts (45).

Senior Ryleigh Vanhoose has also been productive with her bat, hitting .452, as has sophomore Adddision Wilson, who is hitting .367 with eight RBIs.

They faced the region-leading Montgomery County Lady Indians on Thursday at home and fell to their rivals 14-4.

GRC travels to Cynthiana to take on the Harrison County Fillies Friday at 6 p.m.
