Jane H. Shearer, 98, Winchester, died peacefully on March 25, 2023. Born December 9, 1924, in Winchester, KY, she was the daughter of the late William and Bertha Hall. Jane was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Walsa Preston Shearer; also, siblings, Sybil, Etheleen, Geneva, Bill and Don.
She is survived by her son, William P. Shearer (Susie) of Clark County; 3 grandchildren, Ben Shearer, David Shearer, and Kellee Shearer French; 2 great – grandchildren, Will and Jacqueline French. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, and Peggy Horton of Nelson County.
Jane retired as secretary for Ashland Propane Gas Plant in Winchester. Farm, family, and grandchildren kept her busy in retirement.
She was one of the oldest members of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Clark County. After moving to her Brooks Place Cottage, she attended Northside Baptist and Central Baptist Church.
Jane will be remembered for sharing memories of Clark County history and love for estate auctions, Georgia peaches and garden tomatoes. She will be greatly missed at family dinners and especially her jam cakes and deviled eggs. She loved porch-sitting with her neighbors, bus trips with Jenny and Brooks Place friends and Friday lunches with Verna Dean, Joyce, Polly and Anna Clay.
Her funeral and celebration of life will be Monday, April 3rd at 2:30PM conducted by Rev. Dr. Jerry Johns at the Leon Pace Memorial Chapel next to Scobee Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12:30-2:30PM. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill, David, and Ben Shearer, Curtis Mathew, Duane, and Nathan Green. Honorary pallbearers will be Verna Dean Catron, Anna Clay Chism and Polly Todd and her caregivers Tammy Crowe, Patricia Morris, and Brenda Jewell.
