Mattie Golden “Goldie” Barnett Nunan, 84, of Winchester, Ky, passed away March 25, 2023 surrounded by family and friends. Goldie was born November 12, 1938 to the late Simpson & Dollie (Sparks) Barnett in Clay City ,Powell Co., KY. She met the love of her life and the father of her children while working at Loma’s manufacturing. She was a homemaker and after her children were raised she worked at various factories including Rockwell International. Throughout her life, she utilized her artistic abilities to make the world around her beautiful. She was an accomplished seamstress and made many beautiful outfits, cheerleading uniforms, & costumes for her children and grandchildren. She loved making floral arrangements for herself and others. Goldie had a flair for making a house not only gorgeous but also warm and inviting. She loved to entertain and was an excellent cook.. She loved working in downtown Winchester at Etc. Etc , a gift shop, where she met many new friends and she created fantastic window displays. She was a member of the St. Joseph Church and sang in the choir. She belonged to the Little Women Homemaker Club and the Winchester Art Guild. An avid genealogist, she traversed cemeteries, libraries, court houses and connected with others to amass a rich history of her family lineage. She was especially proud of tracing her family lineage to Kentucky pioneers, several Revolutionary War patriots, and joining the DAR. Helping others trace their “roots” brought her tremendous joy. Goldie volunteered for many organizations throughout her lifetime. She enthusiastically volunteered at her children’s school and club activities. She was an active volunteer at her church. She also volunteered at the Bluegrass Heritage Museum, DAR activities, and Arts on Main. She is survived by her children: Vicki (Rusty) Lee, Regina (John) Spencer, John Nunan, Becky (Mike) Murphy, Richard (Denise) Nunan, Mike (Sarah) Nunan. Her Grandchildren: Michael Salyers, Patrick (Kelsey) Ginter, Catlin (Adam) Craig, Tom Spencer, Morgen (Autumn) Murphy, Shannon (Alicia) Murphy, Kathleen (Gabriella) Murphy, Addie and Reece Nunan; Three great-grandchildren: Emmett Craig, Elliott Craig, and Mason Murphy. Her surviving siblings include: Sue Smith, Lonnie (Marilyn) Barnett of Clay City, KY and Sharlet Barnett Scott of Lexington, KY; Her sisters-in-law, Ava Barnett & Ann Barnett, as well as her many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear friend Linda Caudill. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by six of her siblings, Clinton Barnett, Loretta Stephens, Janalee Jacobs, Melba Gabbard, Jimmy Barnett, and Iline Hoskins She was also preceded in death by the father of her children, John F Nunan. Visitation will be April 3rd, 2023, from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm at Roland G Funeral Home in Winchester, KY. The private family burial will be at the Winchester Cemetery.
