Two Clark County women have been arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter in connection with the drowning of a 14-month-old child.
Monica Goodwin, 41, and Erica Goodwin, 44, were arrested by Clark County Sheriff’s deputies Monday morning.
According to court documents, on Nov. 16 at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Goodwins allegedly did not provide adequate supervision for the child when the two left the child unsupervised on the first floor of their residence. The child was alone long enough to climb into a hot tub and drown.
Law enforcement noted in court documents that they found in plain view on a dresser in the home’s upstairs bedroom items of drug paraphernalia consistent with ingesting through snorting and packaging with visible residue.
According to court documents, during an interview with social services, the Goodwins allegedly admitted that they use methamphetamine and had gone upstairs the night of the drowning to partake in illegal narcotics.
Both Goodwins are currently lodged at the Clark County Detention Center. A cash bail of $50,000 has been set for both. Neither has court dates scheduled as of this writing.
The investigation into the matter is still ongoing, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
