Winchester and Clark County saw an increase in positive Covid-19 cases in August, according to the latest data released by the Clark County Health Department on Friday.
The health department confirmed 734 cases, up from the 543 confirmed cases it reported in July.
The total of cases from August is the highest that the area has seen since February, when 1,216 cases were confirmed.
The number of cases was slightly down when compared to last year. The health department confirmed 806 cases of the virus in August 2021.
Despite the higher number of cases, hospitalizations remain low. The health department’s data reveals that 22 people were hospitalized in August, up from 12 in July. The number of hospitalizations for August represented only 3 percent of reported cases.
Clark County continues to be categorized as being in a high level of community spread. Due to that, the health department recommends residents stay up to date on their vaccinations, avoid large indoor gatherings, wear well-fitting masks when appropriate, and stay home if they exhibit signs of sickness.
There have been 13,211 confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the global pandemic began in March 2020. As of August 29th, 62 percent of Clark County residents are vaccinated against the virus.
