A Christmas concert this weekend will serve as a fundraiser to benefit the hometown tornado-ravaged hometown of a Winchester vocal coach.
The free concert will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Christ Church of Winchester and will feature Erika Gaines and Nate Jackson’s vocal stylings along with special guests.
Gaines is from Campbellsville, which widespread damage suffered when an EF-3 tornado slammed into the community early in the morning on Dec. 18.
The storm hit close to home for her.
“The tornado hit about a mile from my dad’s house, which is close to the church I attended when I lived in Campbellsville,” Gaines said.
Of the 70 individuals and families who had homes destroyed by the tornado, Gaines said she knows six of them “really well.”
Gaines’ husband, Jeff, is the church’s pastor and had wanted her to do a Christmas concert for years, and the chance to help the folks back home inspired her to do it finally.
“After the devastation that hit Kentucky, and my hometown was really affected by what happened, I decided that this gives me a great purpose to work really hard and put this together,” Gaines said.
An offering will be taken up to help the tornado victims during the concert, which will go to one of three local relief efforts.
“We are looking at Three Trees Church Disaster Relief, Taylor County Bank Tornado Relief or the Vineyard Campbellsville Least of These Offering,” Gaines said.
