Movies are great any time, any place. Whether at the local cinema or at home in front of the big screen it’s always nice to settle in to watch a movie. But during the summer few things beat watching a film from a lawn chair in the bed of truck, kids running hither and yon, teenagers steaming up windows, and all with a cold drink and a tub of popcorn that only tastes really good at the movies.

So, if you’re in the mood to visit a drive in here are a few that are within an easy drive of Winchester: The Bourbon Drive In (Paris), The Judy Drive In (Mt. Sterling) and the Stanford Drive In (Stanford). All of them open their box offices and concession stands about 7pm with the movies to begin at dusk (about 9 pm). One other thing to keep in mind is that they all accept ONLY cash at the box office though they all accept cash, debit and credit cards at the Concession stands. All are only open Friday through Sunday, weekly during the summer months.

The Bourbon Drive In, Paris, is currently showing Black Widow and Cruella. Admission is $9.00 – Adults (11 and older); $4.00 – Kids (6-10); Free – 5 and under. Black Widow (PG-13) begins at 9:15 and runs 133 mins. Cruella begins at 11:40 and runs 134 minutes. For more information visit their website: http://thebourbondrivein.com/

The Judy Drive-In, Mt Sterling, show first run double features on the weekends. This weekend, July 16, 17, 18 features Space Jam: The New Legacy (PG) and SCOOB (PG). According to Chris Erwin, Manager of the the Judy Drive In, “Admission is $9 for adults, Children 5-11, $4 and under 5, free. In Stanford the drive in is playing Boss Baby and Black Widow. Admission is $6.50 for adults (12 and older); $3.50 Kids (5-11); Free- 4 and under. For more information visit: http://www.stanforddrivein.com

Auditions for Our Town

The Leeds Center for the Arts is holding auditions for Thornton Wilder’s classic Pulitzer Prize winning drama Our Town. Though some parts have already been cast (based on 2020 auditions) there are still lots of opportunities for those who want to get involved in the local theatre scene.

Mark Mozingo is directing.

Auditions are being held 3 and 4August from 6 to 9 pm daily with call backs to be 5 Aug. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

Performances of Our Town will be October 8-10 and 15-17, 2021.
