A tree that crashed into a home and momentarily trapped two children was removed on Tuesday.
The severe storm that hit on Saturday, June 12, knocked over a tree of significant size onto a home at 310 West Hickman Street. Fifty percent of the house collapsed under the impact.
Five people were in the home at the time, with three escaping. Remaining on the second floor were two children, trapped but unharmed.
Winchester firefighters, with Scott Bell serving as battalion chief, successfully cleared through the debris and rescued the children. The family has since taken shelter with a relative.
City crews removed the tree piece-by-piece with a chainsaw. Sections of the tree were then secured and extracted using a crane.
