Legacy Grove Park is celebrating the Longest Day of Play, and the community is invited to have fun and to help with the event.
The park is hosting games, vendors, classes, and other events on Monday, June 21 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Deborah Jackson, executive director of Legacy Greenscapes, says this is the first major event Legacy Grove is seeing since its opening last Fall.
“What we’re really trying to do is host, in one day, the things that could happen every day at our park,” said Jackson, “It’s for kids, families, everybody!”
The Longest Day of Play is an internationally practiced event celebrating the longest days of summer. In the day’s recognition, Legacy Grove will host events such as disc golf, tai chi, and moon gazing. Visitors are also encouraged to have fun and relax at the park, even if they don’t wish to take part in the scheduled events.
Mama D’s Eats and Treats, and Taco Luna y Mas will be vending food on park grounds. In addition, the park is in need of playground monitors, kids activities volunteers, disc golf volunteers, and general help with the event. Volunteer positions may change as needed. Only those 15 or older can volunteer. Youth under 18 must have a parent partnering with them in their volunteer position. All volunteers must sign a waiver. Legacy Greenscapes, the nonprofit running the park, can also be assisted via community donations. At 9 a.m. on June 12, Legacy Grove will host a park dedication to honor those who helped build the park.
“There was a board of community members who put a lot of blood, sweat and tears from the design to putting it in the ground – those individuals have never been publicly recognized,” said Jackson. “So at 9 am, we will be hosting a dedication ceremony here at the park.”
