Clark County’s own “Inkspire!” writing camp returns for its ninth year from Aug. 2-6 at Grace Bible Church on 250 North Main St. in Winchester. As the only writing camp in Clark County, “Inkspire!” is a nonprofit event setting out to explore the fun in writing with students from third grade all the way through high school seniors.
The theme of this year is “Skies the Limit,” and entails all students sharing a large campus to recreate van Gogh’s famous painting, “Starry Night.” Other activities include a poetry blast, camp songs, the release of sky lanterns, letter-writing, and many other hands-on projects and activities. Attendees will take home a writing journal, a special book, a campers’ book, a one-of-a-kind t-shirt, and other surprises.
Each day of the event starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 3:45 p.m. Thursday will see the release of the sky lanterns from 1:45 p.m. through 7:45 p.m. The camp fee is $150 until June 30, after which the cost will be $160 as space permits. A refund of 45 percent is available for cancellations until July 1, 2021.
Students will be responsible for bringing sack lunches and drinks each day – refrigeration available. They also will bring a labeled bottle of hand sanitizer and a roll of paper towels on the first day. Clear face shields will be provided and all CDC guidelines will be followed for the safety of all attendees. Families also will bring a non-sugar snack (non-sugar) and bottled water on the first day that will cover 20 people.
