Oakland “Oakie” Shearer, 77, widow of Carolyn Sue Shearer, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at his home. A native of Winchester, Kentucky, he was born on March 4, 1944, to the late Simon “Sie” and Katie Turley Shearer. He was a farmer and retired from the Kentucky State Transportation Cabinet.

Survivors include two children, Amy (Justin Cooper) Shearer Lingo and John (Andrea) Shearer; grandchildren, Alexa Kathleen Shearer, Oakland Sie Shearer, Jack Shearer Lingo, and Caroline Shearer Lingo; sister, Janice Taulbee; several extended family members and friends.

Services will at 1:00 PM, Friday, March 26, 2021, at Scobee Funeral Home. A private burial will follow in Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jack Lingo, Oakland Shearer, Kellen Cooper, and Silas Cooper.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alexa Shearer and Caroline Lingo.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Oakie and Sue Shearer Memorial Scholarship Fund, College of Education and Human Development, University of Louisville, 1905 South First Street, Louisville, KY 40208. This fund supports first-generation students pursuing a college degree.
