High winds wreaked havoc on the eve of Christmas Eve for residents of western Clark County.

A tree fell across a power line on Basin Springs Road, knocking down a power line about 9:25 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Clark County Fire Department, who responded along with a crew from Clark Energy.

Lois Hatton, a marketing and public relations employee for the rural electric cooperative, said the outage affected 72 residences in the Colby Road area and it took about two and a half hours to get the power back on for those households.

On Christmas Eve, the company posted on its Facebook page that they were aware of several power outages in their service area, were experiencing a large volume of calls from customers and had crews on the way to make repairs.
