Following a public hearing last Tuesday, the Winchester-Clark County Planning Commission approved a housing development on Colby and Venable roads.

The Porter Place development at 5609 Colby Road will consist of 12 tracts ranging in size from about two and a half acres to more than eight and a half acres.

Some residents of the area opposed the development, saying Venable Road was too narrow and that other infrastructure, such as water, was insufficient.

The commission approved the preliminary plat, and the final plat approval probably will be sometime in November, said Robert Jeffries, planning commission director.

Another project, to expand Royal Oaks, including multi-family and single family residences at 300 Royal Oaks Drive and 2395 Paris Road, was not approved.
