Kentucky set a record Wednesday in the number of COVID-19 cases reported in a single day at 1,163.

Thirty-nine of the newly reported cases involved children 5 years old or younger.

“Today we’ve set a record that we never wanted to set, going over 1,000 cases,” Gov. Andy Beshear said in his daily press briefing.

The number, however, included positives from the past few days that weren’t previously reported because of a “glitch” in data processing, the governor said.

The governor also reported seven new deaths Wednesday, bringing the total to 790.

On Thursday, he reported 785 more cases, bringing the total since March to 37,686, and six more deaths, raising the toll to 796.

The positivity rate for testing is currently at 5.67 percent.

The Clark County Health Department has reported 24 cases in the county so far this week.

On Sunday, the department reported five cases, on Monday two, on Tuesday three, on Wednesday six, and on Thursday eight, bringing the total for the year to 285, with 47 of them being active cases. The department also reported seven more people have recovered from the illness.
