Robert D. Campbell’s eighth-grade boys basketball team competed in the KBC Eighth-Grade State Tournament over the weekend.
The tournament began Friday with the Cardinals picking up a 43-39 win over Tates Creek in the team’s only pool play game.
RDC began the tournament Saturday afternoon by picking up a 46-25 win over Bernheim. That evening, the Cards picked up their second win against Hopkinsville, setting up a matchup with Meyzeek with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line.
The game came down to the wire, but RDC pulled out a 37-34 win over the Bears. The Cards would go onto play a late game against Boyd County Saturday night, picking up a 52-41 win to advance to the quarterfinals and the Sunday slate of games.
Sunday began with a 50-32 win over Barret to move on to the semifinals. Campbell picked up a 50-42 win against Henderson North to advance to the championship game.
The Cardinals took on Harrison County for the state championship. The two teams competing for the state championship came out of the same division and the same conference and split the two meetings in the regular season.
RDC struggled offensively in the first half, only scoring three points before the break. The hole was too deep for the Cardinals to climb out of in the second half, falling 47-26 and finishing as state runners-up.
