Down the Lane: What is it about those Cats?

There is something about those Kentucky Wildcats that can make me a nervous wreck.
I have to tell you what happened to me on Saturday before the Kentucky-Louisville Cardinals game.
I grew up a Kentucky Wildcat fan.
My siblings and I caught on from my dad the joy he got when they won. It was not long before we were hooked too.
At first, I could not understand how his mood changed so much after they lost. I must admit, there have been certain losses that have lingered for me also.
Driving back from Richmond on Saturday I decided to turn the radio on and maybe catch some pre-game comments. Some of the comments centered around what Kentucky — who was ranked 19th before the game — would need to do to win. Louisville was ranked third.
The more they talked, the more nervous I became.
I thought, “How crazy am I getting this hyped up and the game has not even started?”
I thought if a player got as nervous before this game they would miss every shot.
However, it seems our team player, Maxey, does his best the bigger the odds on the game.
If you watched the game, you can just imagine the shape I was in by the end of the game. I was shaking.
The scream and dance I did after the win was close to that of a lunatic.
Since my husband was away for the game, I was doing all this screaming and dance to celebrate in the house alone.
I couldn’t help but do a check on my mentality after that game.
I asked myself if I was a normal human being getting that emotional over a basketball game.
Do normal people scream into the television like the players can hear them? Such things as, “Defense, defense!” “Get the ball,” “Don’t step out of bounds, dummy!” “Why on Earth did you turn the ball over?” “I hope Coach Calipari gives you a talking to!” Then when the other team attempts a free throw, “miss it, miss it!”
These are a few of my rants while the game is going on. Not to mention, I let the referees know about their bad calls also.
Then after a win, during the dance and screams, I am saying how much I love the Wildcats.
There are some games that just stay in your mind and the Louisville-Kentucky game is going to be one of those games — along with the Michigan game this year.
To this day I will never forget a Kansas-UK game I attended at Rupp one year.
For me, all games will have me engaged but some can just make me a little loonier.
I have come to love Kentucky football as well and I have found myself getting in the games by screaming, coaching and dance mode all over again.
So much for the mentality check.
I am getting ready to watch the Kentucky-Virginia football bowl game in Charlotte, and guess what? I hope I get to go a little crazy again after the game.
Who cares what others think! All my mentality check proved to me was I am crazy over those Wildcats.
