George Rogers Clark’s freshman boys basketball team hosted Madison Southern Thursday night.

The Cardinals fell into a hole early and weren’t able to dig themselves out of it.

Turnovers and shots not falling caused their 13-8 deficit at the end of the first quarter to turn into a 24-15 deficit by halftime.

Clark County was able to go on a run early in the second half to cut it to a five-point game, but the Eagles were able to score the final four points of the quarter to push it back to nine points.

After falling behind by double digits early in the fourth quarter, GRC went on one more run to bring it as close as 34-27, but Madison Southern regrouped after a timeout and finished the game strong to hold on to a  39-29 win.

GRC was led in scoring by Kareem Guerrant, who scored 17 of the Cardinals’ 29 points. Reshaun Hampton and Jacob Sandefur each scored four points and Q Parker and Jaylen Berry each scored two.

The junior varsity and varsity teams will each have a shot at the Eagles later this season as Madison Southern returns to Winchester Tuesday, Feb. 11.
