BOE approves schools facility planning committee

The Clark County Board of Education approved the 2019-2020 District Facility Planning Committee in its regular meeting Tuesday.
The committee will go on to the Kentucky Department of Education for approval before the committee can officially meet. Once it receives final approval, the committee can get to work forming the next district facility plan and identifying which projects are of highest priority.
There are 20 members on the board including Superintendent Paul Christy, parents William Rawlings, Amanda Terry, Aleisha Allen and Larissa Townsend; teachers Holly Hicks, Nikki Dore, Mike Murray and Bob Howard; building administrators Daren Snell, Dustin Howard, Stacey Moore and Kara Davies; district facilities director Donald Stump; central office staff Christy Bush; community leaders Emily Heath Keely, Kerry Curtis and Brenda Sipes; board member Ashley Ritchie and local planning and zoning member Randy Whisman.
In previous meetings, board members have expressed their interest in wanting a new preschool to be on the priority list.
John Hagan Codell of Codell Construction also had an update on the George Rogers Clark High School gymnasium and field house project.
Cordell said the curtain wall system and glass has been installed at the gym. The metal wall panels are complete, and site concrete work has begun. The second floor bleachers are being installed. The gym floor installation has yet to begin until controlled air is in place.
As for the field house, the masonry veneer of the field house is complete. Metal wall panels are almost done and windows are being installed. Concession stands are nearing completion, and the storm system around the perimeter of the field house is complete. The mass earthwork is also underway on the fields on days that weather cooperates, Codell said in his report.
