Their pressure defense caused trouble for the Vikings throughout the game, leading them to a 65-21 win. The leading scorer for the sixth grade team Wyatt Johnson, who picked up 14 points, including 10 in the second quarter.
The seventh grade team also won handily. The team jumped out to an 18-6 lead by halftime and winning by a final margin of 35-13. The leading scorer on the team was Craig, who made three 3-pointers to end the game with nine points.
The eighth grade game was a barnburner, but RDC was able to pull out a victory. The team fell behind 14-13 in the second quarter, the first time the Cardinals had trailed in any game up to that point, but bounced back to tie the game at 21-21 by halftime.
The Cards found themselves trailing 43-41 with 1:30 remaining in the game until Blake Wasson hit a big 3-pointer to take a one-point lead.
The Vikings then responded with a three of their own to retake the lead with under a minute to play.
RDC’s Davis got the Vikings to bite on a pump fake on the ensuing possession and was able to put in a layup to give the Cardinals another one-point lead with 30 seconds left. The Cardinals’ defense was able to poke the ball free from the Vikings point guard and force an over-and-back call to seal the victory and the sweep on their home opener.
