As the district tournaments wrapped up on Thursday night, George Rogers Clark found out Friday morning the brackets for their 10th Region boys and girls soccer tournaments.
The boys team, who finished as runners-up to Montgomery County Thursday night, are traveling to the Indians’ home field beginning Monday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. The Cards got a tough draw and their first round matchup will be against Harrison County, the region’s best defense. The teams tied 2-2 on Sept. 17 at Harrison County.
If the Cardinals are able to advance, they will take on the highest-scoring offense in the region, Calvary Christian on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. The two teams did not face off in the regular season.
The championship game will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. Should GRC advance, they would play either Montgomery County, Campbell County or Mason County. The most likely opponent would be the top seed and host, Montgomery County, who have beaten GRC twice this season.
The girls team will also have to win three games if they want to make it to the state tournament for a fourth consecutive year.
The tournament will be held at 38th District champion Harrison County and the Lady Cardinals first round matchup is slated for Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. against St. Patrick. The Saints only won two regular season games but qualified for the region tournament after beating Mason County 2-1 in the first round of the district tournament.
Should GRC advance, they will face Campbell County Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. The two teams faced off in the regular season and tied 2-2, the only draw of the season for GRC.
If the Cards make the championship game, they will face either Bishop Brossart, Montgomery County or Harrison County on Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. This season, GRC has downed Montgomery County twice, Harrison County once and didn’t play Bishop Brossart.
