The George Rogers Clark girls golf team headed to Lexington on Monday to compete in their region tournament.
The girls teed off at the Keene Trace Golf Club on Keene Run Course.
In a loaded 9th Region that you have to finish top-five, the girls shot a 359, six strokes short of qualifying as a team to compete in the state tournament. A score of 359 would have qualified the girls as a team in any of the other 11 regions in the state.
The team was led by Hannah Curreri, who shot an 80. Aniston Culton followed her, finishing with an 89. Molly Franklin shot a 93 for the Cardinals, Brenna Rose a 97 and Joy Lisle a 98.
However, the top seven individuals not on the winning team are eligible to enter the Girls’ State Golf Championships and GRC senior Curreri’s team-best 80 qualified.
The state tournament is held at the Bowling Green Country Club. The three-day tournament starts Oct. 7 with a practice round, followed by two days of competition.
For individual participants, there will be a cut after the first round of each championship.
The lowest 42 individual participants not on a qualifying team, including ties, will advance to the second day.
Curreri has competed in the last three state tournaments as an individual, missing the cut by only two strokes the past two seasons and finishing in 44th in 2016.
