Athlete of the week: Ciana Araya

Ciana Araya was the leading scorer for the Cardinals girls soccer team this week, scoring twice in two games including a key penalty kick in the final two minutes against Campbell County to secure a draw for George Rogers Clark. Araya is tied for the second-most goals scored on the team this season and is only a freshman.
QUESTION: What’s your favorite part about soccer? ARAYA: My favorite part about soccer is playing with my team, having relationships with players and enjoying the experience of the game I love to play.
Q: Did you set any personal goals before the season? A: Yes, I set a goal to become a starting varsity player and to work really hard in practices.
Q: Do you have any athletes you try to model your game after? A: Yes, I try to model Messi because he works really hard and he inspires me to work hard too.
Q: What’s your favorite memory playing soccer? A: My favorite memory of playing soccer is when I joined GRC soccer because I knew it was going to be a great experience and I would gain relationships that will last a lifetime.
Q: Who has had the most influence on your soccer career? A: My dad, he works really hard to get me places and he works hard to make up the money to have me train. He loves the game and he makes me enjoy it.
Q: Did you set any team goals before the season? A: Yes, I really want to win districts and it would be amazing to win state.
