GRC students recognized by Central Ky. Youth Salute

Forty-five students from George Rogers Clark High School are among the 873 high school juniors from 53 high schools in Central Kentucky recognized in this year’s “Youth Salute.”
To qualify, the student had to be a junior (senior class of 2020), have a 3.0 GPA or better and have held at least two leadership roles to which they were chosen by their peers or an adult leader within the past two years in school, religious or community sponsored organizations.
The Sun featured several students weekly. This is the final group of students.
Molly Franklin
Molly is a member of National Honor Society, National Society of High School Scholars and Beta Club. She also earned principal’s honor roll. She was a member of the 2018 Tom Leach All-Resilient Team. She was a UCA All American Cheerleader, and is a member of the GRC varsity golf and cheer teams. She studies in the Project Lead The Way biomedical sciences program. She competed in the 2017 and 2018 KHSAA girls golf state tournament. Molly plans to attend the University of Kentucky and then medical school.
Rachel Puckett
Rachel is co-captain of the GRCHS cross country/track and field team. She is the co-writer and speaker of a six-week church-wide sermon series. She also volunteers as a teacher for the Calvary Christian Church Sunday children’s services, and as an escort for Jesus Prom. She is an editor for Smoke Signals. She participated in the Youth Becoming Leaders 2018. She is a member of Beta Club. She co-founded the GRC student-led cross country Bible study. She volunteers on the Red River Gorge Trail Crew. She also participated in a mission trip to New York City. Rachel hopes to attend a christian college, where she will then pursue a career in the ministry field or pediatric physical therapy.
Rebekah Miles
Rebekah is a member of National Honor Society, Student Y Club, Beta Club, 4-H Teen Leadership Club and the Young Democrats Club. She studies biomedical sciences in Project Lead The Way. She is a 4-H camp counselor and secretary of the 4-H Horse Club. She is also a Girl Scout camp counselor. She was named Kentucky United Nations Assembly Outstanding Ambassador in 2018. Rebekah plans to major in marine sciences and become a marine biologist.
Sara Johnson
Sara is a Samaritan’s Purse project leaders. She is a Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Kentucky 2018 alumni. She was a member of the Kentucky Ohana Volleyball Academy 16 Honu National Team. She is a captain of the GRCHS varsity volleyball team. She is a vacation Bible school leader at Mt. Zion Christian Church and also attend mission trips with the church. She studies in the GRC Fine Arts Cohort, works on the musical tech crew and has been named to the school’s honor roll. Sara plans to major in pre-med, attend medical school and have a career in internal medicine.
Sydney Partin
Sydney earned the principal’s award for freshman leadership. She is a part of the Student Technology Leadership Program State Blogger Corp. She is a member of Beta Club and earned honor roll. She was named All Conference for cross country and also earned cross country academic honors. She is part of the varsity cross country and track teams. She is part of the DanceBlue fundraising committee. She also is a toddler time teacher assistant at Durbin Memorial Baptist Church. Sydney plans to major in pre-physical therapy at Eastern Kentucky University with hopes of becoming a physical therapist.
Taylor Plowman
Taylor is a member of the Smoke Signals newspaper media staff. She is president of Senior Smiles. She is an attendee of the National Academy of Future Physicians and founder of Nutrition Without Negotiation nonprofit organization. She also is part of the tennis team. She attend the Crossroads Church student ministry. She is a member of French club, committee chair of the Student Y-Club, volunteers for DanceBlue and is a National Honor Society member. Taylor plans to attend the University of Kentucky or Penn State University and major in nutrition and minor in broadcasting, then pursue a career in the nutrition field.
William Chase Taulbee
William is a member of Beta Club, National Honor Society and Clark County Junior Cattleman’s Club. He is assistant treasurer and recruitment chair of the Clark County FFA. He is a captain of the GRCHS varsity football team. He was runner-up in the Clark County Jim Claypool Conservation Writing Contest. He also is a National FFA Organization Regional Extemporaneous Speech Contest participant. He earned his Clark County FFA Greenhand and Chapter Degree. Chase plans to major in mechanical engineering with the hopes of owning his own business.
