GAME OF THE WEEK: GRC vs. Scott — Girls Soccer
Published 5:09 pm Tuesday, September 17, 2019
This week’s game of the week is a matchup between two of the top three teams in the 10th Region.
George Rogers Clark, who is currently first in the region, travels to Taylor Mill in Kenton County to take on Scott, currently third in the region.
The Lady Eagles are 8-2-1 on the season and have the second-best defense in the region, allowing only 14 goals so far this season.
Their 14 goals allowed are also good enough to squeak into the top-25 in the state, coming in at 24th.
The Lady Cardinals defense has been playing well of late, with three shutouts in their last five games with a one-goal-allowed game in that stretch as well.
It is also a rematch of last year’s 10th Region championship, where the Lady Cardinals won 3-1 to end Scott’s season.
GRC returns both players who scored in last year’s championship game, Allie Bush, who scored twice, and Leslie Hernandez.
The Lady Eagles are currently 4-1 in region play this season, with their only loss coming from Campbell County, the team who sits between GRC and Scott in the standings.
GRC is playing what may be their best soccer of the season, matching their longest winning streak of the season (5) in their game against Paris.
The Cardinals offense has been clicking, scoring 23 goals in their last three contests with 16 of those coming off assists.
GRC leads the region in goals scored by a wide margin, scoring 86 goals so far with the next closest team at 45.
The game is set to kick off at Scott High School at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
