RDC debuts new Nike jerseys in wins against Bondurant

Robert D. Campbell Jr. High unveiled their new Nike uniforms in their games against Bondurant Tuesday night.

The eighth-grade team was led by seventh-grader Ciara Byars, who finished the game with 18 points.

The game started with the Cardinals getting out to an early lead, up as much as 13-4. But the quarter ended with a last-second Bondurant bucket to cut it to 15-8.

Bondurant kept cutting into the lead, getting to as close as a four-point game by the second quarter, but the Cards battled back to end the quarter with an 8-0 run, taking a 26-14 lead into halftime.

The team really hit their stride in the second half, only giving up eight points on defense and scoring 17 points on offense to capture a 43-22 victory.

The seventh-grade team had an impressive outing as well, including a blazing start that led to a 20-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The leading scorer for the team was also Byars, who plays up for the eighth-grade team. She finished the seventh-grade game with 14 points.

The team stalled a bit in the second quarter, only scoring six points, but were able to pick it up in the second half.

The third quarter saw another explosion, with RDC scoring 16 points while only giving up five on the defensive side. They were able to cruise in the fourth quarter to a 49-13 victory.

The team is back in action tonight when Scott County comes to town. All three grade levels will play with the sixth-grade team playing first. The first tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and will be at Campbell Jr. High.
