50 years ago

Sept. 6, 1969

— Gary Watts, Clark halfback, scored twice while giving offensive support to Mike Griffith. The Cards won 27-12 over Scott County.

Sept. 9, 1969

— The Clark County Chapter of American Red Cross is asking everyone to “shop early for Christmas this year.” The Clark County Chapter has been asked to make and fill 100 “ditty bags”for servicemen in Vietnam.

Sept. 7, 1994

— The Winchester Board of Commissioners sought to curb juvenile crime by imposing a curfew. The board directed the city attorney to draft a curfew ordinance based on similar measures taken by the Paris City Commission.

— Winners of the Blind Partners Tournament for the Ladies Golf Association for the 18-hole group were Myrna Blackburn and Phyllis Hartshorn for A Flight, Charlotte Schnittker and Betty Bailey for Flight B and Betty Scott and Louise Kohl for Flight C.

Sept. 9, 1994

— The Clark Middle School Eagles opened their season at Belmont Field with a sweep of the Conkwright  Middle School Cougars. Clark Middle’s seventh grade won 16-0 while the eighth grade Eagles took a 30-0 victory  in the annual crosstown clash between the two local schools.

Sept. 5, 2009

— Former George Rogers Clark standout Bo Harris took his skills to the next level when he was selected as one of the first 12 members of the Bluegrass Stallions, a professional American Basketball Association team based in Lexington.

Sept. 9, 2009

— Travis Drumm won the Commissioner’s Award in Sheep Showmanship at the Kentucky State Fair.
