Clark Regional Medical Center is hosting its first-ever Color Run Saturday.
Sarah Alexander, director of marketing at CRMC, said the proceeds benefit Clark Regional’s Auxiliary Cancer Patient Fund and Clark County Relay for Life.
“We were looking for an event to fund our cancer patient fund, and we’re a big supporter of the Relay for Life,” Alexander said. “We wanted to do something different, and we thought the Color Run would be a great event for runners and walkers alike.”
Registration opens at 8 a.m., and the race begins at 9 a.m. at CRMC. All ages are welcome.
Participants 12 and younger are free, but they can buy a race shirt for $10. Registration for 13 and older is $30. Register at runsignup.com or register the day of the event.
Alexander said attendees could also learn more about CRMC’s oncology program and other cancer prevention and screening services while at the event.
CRMC will also offer free skin cancer screenings, and the inflatable colon will return for attendees to check out.
Dr. Rebecca Bartee will speak about cancer prevention during the event.
“Our vision is ‘Making Communities Healthier,’” Alexander said. “We wanted to have a way to do that by walking or running as well as discussing the importance of cancer screenings whether it be annual mammograms or once your turn 50, going in for a colonoscopy.
“Screening is good for catching cancer and curing it… We’re trying to make sure the community knows about the services we offer here.”
Alexander said she hopes the community turns out for what will be a fun-filled event.
“It’s a great event for families and friends,” she said. “It’s just a really neat way to not only come together as a community to support great organizations but to also learn more about cancer screenings, what the risks are and symptoms are.
“You can get educated while having fun.”
