Our View: Cleaning out can help Generations Center

The old saying goes “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” and a local nonprofit is putting that sentiment in action.

This summer, while you’re cleaning out your garage or de-cluttering at home, you can help a local agency that gives back to area seniors.

The James B. Allen Generations Center is collecting items that could be sold in a yard sale for an upcoming fundraiser.

Donations will be accepted at the center, 32 Meadow St., from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

A date for the yard sale has yet to be announced, but items will be accepted through Aug. 20. The center will not accept large furniture, because of a lack of space for storage, but it seems any other items would be great additions to the fundraiser.

The center has been serving local seniors for many years by offering socialization opportunities, delivering meals and providing programming for seniors.

By donating unneeded or unwanted items, you could help support a vital program in our community.

Many items will likely be donated anyways, but this way you can ensure the money made from the sale of these items goes to a worthy cause.

Please consider giving back to the community in this way.

It’s an easy way to make a small impact. If many people make donations each of those small impacts can add up to a significant fundraiser for the local agency.
