Lights over Lykins will cap the Fourth of July holiday with a boom and flash of lights Thursday evening.

The annual community fireworks show is scheduled to begin around 10 p.m. at Lykins Park on Mount Sterling Road.

Gates for the free event will open at 6 p.m. with festivities beginning at 7 p.m. with music and games. A number of food vendors will be on site with items for sale. The event itself is free.

Organizers said the fireworks will be bigger and better than previous year, partly from increased corporate sponsorship of the event and a partnership between Clark County and the City of Winchester.

In case of rain, the event will be moved to Saturday, July 6.

Most government offices will be closed Thursday for the holiday as well. The Winchester Sun office will be closed and will not publish a newspaper Thursday. Normal hours and publishing will resume Friday.
