Cool History on Hot Days returns in July

If looking for something educational and fun to do this summer, Fort Boonesborough State Park may be the place to go.
The fort’s annual Cool History on Hot Days series is back for summer 2019.
Emily Burns, a historic interpreter at the fort, said a guest presenter would talk about or demonstrate an aspect of frontier life at 2 p.m. each Saturday in July and August.
“It’s too hot and humid in Kentucky to make outdoors programs comfortable, so we have a special program inside,” Burns said.
Regular admission to the fort, located inside Madison County on Kentucky 627, includes entry to the program, which has grown in popularity over its many years, Burns said. Regular demonstrators are also in the fort throughout the day if attendees want to come early or stay after the program to further explore the fort.
Program presentations will relate to early Kentucky history and are in the Blockhouse.
Burns said program topics include Elizabeth Harper, a notable midwife in Kentucky; Appalachian stories; Women’s clothing; Native American claims to Kentucky land; African American experiences on the frontier; and more.
“It’s not the usual history,” Burns said.
