James Luther “Luke” Morris, 85

James Luther “Luke” Morris, 85, of Bonita Springs, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 with his family by his side.

Formerly of both Cumberland and Winchester, KY he began vacationing in Bonita Springs in 1952 before making it his permanent home in 1996. Luke was born November 15, 1933 in Cumberland, KY a son of the late Edward and Maxie (Smith) Morris. He attended Union College in Barbourville, KY. His career started in the family’s sawmilling business working for his father.

After that he took a job with US Steel operating heavy equipment. He then went to work for Sprague and Henwood, Inc. until 1961. Soon after, he went to work for Ingersall Rand until 1964. At that point he went to work as a heavy equipment salesman for Brandies Machinery until 1978. From 1978-1995 he worked for Bryant Equipment and tried his hand at running an oil lease. He retired from Bryant Equipment in 1995 and came to Bontia Springs, FL to refurbish the old family place. He along with his wife moved to Bonita Springs full time in 1996. Luke was an avid golfer who also enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Betty Louise (Brewer) Morris; loving children, James L. “Jim” (Barbara) Morris Jr. of Bonita Springs, FL, Donna (Edward) Carmichael of Winchester, KY; grandchildren, Christina Freedman, Megan (Sterling) DeVane, Lauren (Jim Brown) Morris, Valerie (Patrick) O’Conner, James Hall, Seth Hall and E.J. Carmichael; great grandchildren, Noelle, Ethan, Isla, Hannah and Paxton; and siblings, Raymond (Shelby) Morris of Cartersville, GA, Wilma (Paul) Gibson of Paris, KY, Delores (Gene) Davis of Alexandria, VA and Patricia (Joe) Scopa of Cumberland, KY; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Edward Morris, Brenda Morris, Mildred Taylor, and Kenneth Morris.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 3:00 P.M. at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail So., Bonita Springs, FL 34134. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested in Luke’s name to Anchor Christian Church, Landscape Fund, 11651 E. Terry Street, Bonita Springs, FL 34135.
